Grid to Green: PGCIL Secures ₹20.50 Cr Kakinada Transmission Project

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) continues to anchor the nation’s green transition, recently finalizing its 100% equity acquisition of Kakinada I Transmission (KITL) for roughly ₹20.50 crore. Bought from PFC Consulting after a competitive TBCB bidding process, the SPV is central to Andhra Pradesh's burgeoning green fuel economy.

Operating under a BOOT framework, the project is specifically engineered to feed reliable power to upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities. PGCIL will spearhead the construction of modern 765/400 kV gas-insulated substations and 765 kV transmission lines, integrating advanced STATCOM systems to guarantee grid resilience. This acquisition solidifies PGCIL’s role as a critical enabler of India’s heavy-industry decarbonization goals.
